Privacy Policy

The short version
The Chores helps families track chores and allowances. We collect the minimum needed to make that work, we never sell your data, we show no ads, and no real money moves through the app — it only keeps a record of what a parent owes and when they paid it.
Why there is a small monthly fee
We chose a subscription model so The Chores can be supported by the families who use it, rather than by selling attention or private household data. The fee helps cover hosting, support, security, and ongoing development. We would rather build a useful app that lasts than become a business built around monetizing your family's information.
What we collect
- Parent accounts. An email address and password, used to sign in. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are never visible to us.
- Household details. Your household name and the first names or nicknames, optional ages, and sign-in PINs of the members a parent adds.
- Profile photos (optional). If a family member chooses a profile photo, we store it so it can appear on their avatar. Photos are optional — the app works fully without them, using a colored initial instead.
- Chore and allowance records. The chores you create, completions, balances, and cash-out history.
We do not collect payment information, location, contacts, or advertising identifiers.
Children's privacy
Child profiles are created and controlled entirely by a parent. Children do not register themselves, have no email accounts with us, and sign in only with a PIN inside their parent's household. The only information about a child we hold is what their parent chooses to enter.
A note on children's photos. A profile photo for a child is optional and is added by, or with the permission of, the child's parent. Photos are stored privately and are visible only to members of that child's own household — never to other users, never publicly, and never used for any purpose other than showing the avatar. A parent can remove a child's photo, profile, and all associated data at any time.
Where your data lives
Data and photos are stored with our infrastructure provider, Supabase, on servers in the United States, and are encrypted in transit. Access is restricted by per-household security rules enforced at the database level: members of one household can never see another household's data or photos, and children can only see their own lists.
What we never do
- Sell or rent your data to anyone
- Show advertising of any kind
- Use third-party trackers or analytics that identify your family
Deleting your data
Deleting your household in the app removes its records. You can also email us (see Support) and we will delete your account and all associated data.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
